Mayor

Town Mayors have always played a role in helping a town achieve its goals and with Oakland’s first Chairman A.E. Wells who was elected on April 1881, he surely set the bars high for Chairman’s/Mayor’s to come. Looking back to the first Board at the time Village of Oakland NE C.J Griffin, Board Member / J.S. Lennson, Board Member / H.Stern, Board Member/ J.F Nelson, Marshall / Henry Neuman, Treasurer / C.R. Huntington, Clerk / M.Parkish, Attorney who met every 2nd Tuesday at the Oakland School in town one can see many recognizable last names who have continued to help this town grow and achieve its goals.

Oakland’s current Mayor Ted Beckner has served as Oakland’s Mayor since December 2012. For a total of 13 years serving on the City board to this town as Councilman, three years as Council President, and eight years as Mayor, he has had Council Members serve right alongside him.  Those Councilmen are Matthew Johnson who has served a total of 13 years, four years as Council President, and nine years as Councilman. Greg Mockenhaupt has served a total of six years, two years being Council President and Councilman for four years. Dan Jacobs has served as Councilman for a total of four years. Luke Blanc as Council President one year and Councilman for four years with a total of five years.

The City of Oakland, Nebraska’s Mayor and it’s City Council Members welcome all citizens to freely express their appreciations, any concerns, ideas, and/or information they may have regarding the community about the history or present situations. Communities members are the ones that help the City Council keep Oakland the safe and beautiful town it should be.”
